PAO migration.

PAO adsorbed on a primary (Iry) mica surface were placed in contact as well in semi-contact with a secondary (IIry) surface. TM topography images of the PAO adsorbed on primary placed afterwards in contact (a) or in semi-contact (e) with a secondary mica surface and corresponding secondary mica at different times (1–72 hrs, contact b–d, semi-contact f–h). The images show the formation of PAO on the secondary surface after 1 hr of incubation. The number of PAO on the secondary mica is higher after 24 hrs of incubation and linear protofibrils appear after 72 hrs. Scale bars: 100 nm (a) and 200 nm (b–h). PAO were adsorbed on the primary mica by dipping the surface for 24 hrs in a 44 μM Aβ42 peptide solution in 10 mM PBS at pH 7.4, T = 25 °C. The number and size of the structures are indicated in the table under each experimental time point. The amplitude scale is in Volt; we indicated the height (nm) corresponding to 1 Volt.
