(d) Experimental XRD pattern of (Ca, K)C8 and simulated patterns for KC8, CaC6 and LiC6. The peaks labelled ‘*’ in the experimental XRD pattern can be assigned to the Al of the sample holder. The same sample of (Ca, K)C8 was used the to obtain the M/H − T plots shown in 1a and the XRD pattern shown in 1c, whereas the sample used for the EDX spectrum shown in 1d is different; however, the nominal x value and observed Tc are the same.
