Protective effects of rIPC against paraplegia following spinal cord ischemia.
(a) Evaluation of paraplegia using the Basso Mouse Scale; Remote ischemic preconditioning (rIPC) was performed by clamping the abdominal aorta. At 24 h after rIPC, SCI was induced by clamping the descending aortic cross. Paraplegia was then evaluated at 3 days after SCI using the Basso Mouse Scale. Each group included six mice. (b) Immunostaining against neural cell marker NeuN; third lumber spinal cords were immunostained using an anti-NeuN antibody on the day of Basso Mouse Scale assessments. Presented images show typical immunostaining against NeuN.
