The new pink curve has a fixed y/z and cannot be seen in (a), because it is orthogonal to the direction y/z. In x versus y/z space, the new curve crosses the previous one almost at an right angle, which allows to reach a high new constrained maximum when departing from the previous one (see the black arrow).
