The average number of in-vivo B-cell divisions (A), the percentage of cells in the final culture that divided at least once (B) and the average number of divisions after in-vitro stimulation (C) were evaluated in HIV+ (black dots) and HIV− patients (white squares) at the indicated time points and compared with that of HC (rhombi). Error bars represent the 95% confidence interval of the mean. Grey horizontal lines represent the highest and lowest values measured in HC. Two HIV+ and two HIV− patients were not analyzed for functional study for the lack of cells at the baseline time point. *Significant differences between HIV+ patients in comparison to HIV− patients at the indicated time-point.
