Intranasal but not intramuscular administration of α-GalCer inhibits viral replication in respiratory tissues and reduces nasal shedding in pigs challenged with CA04 virus.
Viral titers for (a) homogenized airway tissues and (b) bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) collected at 7 days p.i. as well as (c) nasal swabs collected at −1, 1, 2, 3, 5 and 7 days p.i. Changes in nasal swab titers were analyzed using the SAS PROC MIXED procedure and the Turkey’s test was used to examine treatment differences at each time point for each dependent variable. Changes in BALF and airway tissue titers were analyzed using the Kruskal-Wallis test. *P < 0.05. Data are represented as mean ± SEM.
