From: Immune-responsiveness of CD4+ T cells during Streptococcus suis serotype 2 infection

CD4KO are more susceptible to S. suis infection than control C57BL/6 mice at a low infectious dose.

Mice (n = 10 per group × 2 individual experimental infections) were infected intraperitoneally with (a) 1 × 107 CFU or (b) 5 × 107 CFU of S. suis wild-type strain P1/7. Survival levels were recorded and systemic bacteremia levels of infected mice was monitored at 6, 12, 24, and 48 h after infection. Blood was drawn by tail puncture and serially diluted in PBS prior to plating on blood agar dishes. Individual colonies were counted and data expressed as CFU/mL of blood. *P < 0.05, indicates statistically significant difference compared to control mice.
