Mean values (±SE) of fluorescence (maximum quantum yield) for the three phototrophic species per light treatment 0, 0.8, 3.2, 8.1 mol photons m−2 d−1 and natural light (NL, 3.2–6.5 mol photons m−2 d−1). Measurements were taken at the start of the experiment and then weekly until the end of the experimental and observational (O) periods. Asterisks show statistically significant differences among treatments (ANOVA: P < 0.05).
