  1. Cell/ECM mixtures were inoculated into the epithelium divested (cleared) mammary fat-pads of 3–4 week old female nude mice. Mice were impregnated and allowed to involute for 3 weeks to activate the WC/R26-LacZ reporter. Second generation outgrowths were generated by transplanting fragments from Xgal+ primary outgrowths into cleared mammary fat-pads of 3–4 week female nude old mice and allowed to grow for 8 weeks.
