Groups of 4 mice were infected with initial doses of 30 μl of 107PFU/ml of either W452 (A–D) or W468 (E–H), and their body weights were monitored for 5 days. The lungs of infected mice were collected at 5 dpi, and the supernatants of lung homogenates were independently and sequentially passaged 5 times in mice. Individual passage numbers are indicated as P0-P5, with dilution factors.
