(a) Principal component scatter plot of all individuals, based on the DAPC output, and (b) the optimal number of clusters (K) as determined by ‘k-means’, a clustering algorithm which looks for the value of K that maximises the variation between groups. The Bayesian Information Criterion (BIC) is plotted for K = 1–9 and the ‘elbow’ in the graph at K = 3 indicates this to be the most likely value of K. KI = Kangaroo Island cluster, Eastern = Eastern cluster, FGR = Finders/Gammon Ranges cluster.
