(A) Echolocation emission rate (mean + 1 SEM, n = 10 bats) decreased in the presence of playback in an open room and while flying through a 6 row × 5 rope maze. (B) Navigational performance (n = 10, +1 SEM), measured as number of hits made with ropes in the maze, declines in the presence of playback. Different lowercase letters among playback conditions and different uppercase letters between room conditions (open vs. maze) were significantly different according to Tukey post hoc test.
