JP8 activates autophagy in both normal and cancer cells and selectively induces ROS accumulation in cancer cells. ROS can lead to apoptosis in cancer cells; additionally, accumulation of ROS further accelerates autophagy and autophagy-induced cell death in cancer cells. Thus JP8 may exhibit selective toxicity against cancer cells and has few side effects on normal cells.
