(a) Immunostainings of OTC sections fixed on DIV 28 displayed extensive expression of calbindin (red) throughout the granule cell layer (GCL), while there were only few DCX-positive (green) cells in the subgranular zone (SGZ). Prox1 (blue) was expressed in the entire GCL in immature and mature GCs. (b) Few DCX-positive cells were found in the SGZ in 28-day-old OTCs. Most GCs were calbindin-positive and extended their dendrites through the molecular layer (ML) to the hippocampal fissure (fis), indicating that at this time point, most GCs are mature and the neurogenesis rate has decreased.
