The fraction of male (M; open bars) and female (F, filled bars) participants in our study population of 3,130 individuals was 0.43 and 0.57, respectively, and that within the 513 family members was 0.39 and 0.61, respectively. In contrast, the ratio of male: female individuals among the TT homozygotes was skewed at 0.85:0.15.
