Assessment of granule cells, glia, and granule cell layer in dentate gyrus (DG) of suicides and controls. Unmedicated suicides have decreased numbers of granule cells in the anterior DG (a), as well as decreased volume in the anterior DG (b). Granule cell neuronal density was unchanged in the anterior DG (c). Granule cell body size was increased in suicides in the posterior DG (d).
