Expression of NADPH oxidases (NOX) mRNA in prefrontal and cingulate cortices of psychiatric patients. (a) Ct values from the qPCR analysis of the expression of NOX1–NOX5 are shown. ND, not detected. Only values above a threshold of Ct=35 (dotted line) were used for further analysis. The expression of (b) NOX4 was unchanged, whereas NOX2 (c) was decreased in prefrontal cortex (PFC) of patients with bipolar disorder. The expression of (d) NOX2 and (e) p47phox were decreased in cingulate cortex of bipolar patients. (f) Significant correlation was observed for NOX2 expression in PFC and in cingulate cortex, Spearman ρ and P-value are shown on the graph.
