Anti-fouling graphene-based membranes for effective water desalination

Intrinsic limitations of nanoporous graphene limit its applications in water treatment. Here the authors produce post-treatment-free, low-cost graphene-based membranes from renewable biomass and demonstrate their high water permeance and antifouling properties using real seawater.

Rapid epitaxy-free graphene synthesis on silicidated polycrystalline platinum

Innovative substrate engineering is necessary to improve the quality of CVD-synthesized graphene. Here the authors demonstrate in situfabrication of an eutectic Pt-Si alloy that forms a wetting liquid surface on polycrystalline Pt foils, allowing millimetre-sized graphene crystals to grow in minutes.

Single-step ambient-air synthesis of graphene from renewable precursors as electrochemical genosensor

Graphene films are commonly produced by thermal chemical vapour deposition, which is capable of producing high-quality films but still limited by factors such as high cost. Here, the authors report the growth of single-to-few-layer continuous graphene films under ambient-air conditions.

Reconfigurable and tunable terahertz electronic devices are promising for various technological applications, for which metamaterials are receiving interest. Here, a graphene/gold bilayer metasurface enables the creation of a frequency-selective absorber with electrical tuning in the 0.1–1 THz range.
