  • A quantum critical point (QCP) describes a phase change independent of thermal fluctuations and instead can be driven by chemical or hydrostatic pressure. Here, the authors investigate by X-ray diffraction the evolution of the charge density wave in 2H-TaSe2 as a function of pressure and demonstrate how it is intertwined with a QCP and the superconducting phase of the system.

  • The authors study the charge-density-wave (CDW) compound 2H-TaSe2 by inelastic x-ray scattering combined with photoemission spectroscopy. They find evidence for a precursor region above the CDW transition temperature, which is characterized by an overdamped phonon mode and is not detectable by photoemission.

  • Electronic nematicity is typically associated with the breaking of rotational symmetry. Here the authors report unusual nematicity in BaNi2As2, manifested in a large splitting of the optical phonon mode above the structural transition temperature, and link it to the coupling between the lattice and nematic fluctuations.
