Synergistic bimetallic catalysis has been proposed to be an alternative mechanism of palladium catalysed cross-coupling reactions, however, little is known about the details of this postulated dual catalysis. Here, the authors divide the mechanism of palladium catalysed cross-coupling of aryl halides and terminal alkynes into elementary steps and investigate the kinetics of each step independently.
