High ploidy large cytoplasmic megakaryocytes are hematopoietic stem cells regulators and essential for platelet production

Not all megakaryocytes are created equal, with sub-populations identified that generate platelets and differentially regulate blood stem cells. These sub-populations, conserved in humans, are important in treating blood and clotting disorders.

Nicotinamide riboside attenuates age-associated metabolic and functional changes in hematopoietic stem cells

Aged hematopoietic stem cells (HSC) are characterised by reduced regenerative potential and a loss of quiescence. Here, the authors show nicotinamide riboside treatment shrinks the age-enlarged stem cell pool and shifts aged HSC functionally, metabolically and molecularly towards the young state.

Therapeutic targeting and rapid mobilization of endosteal HSC using a small molecule integrin antagonist

Mobilizing haematopoietic stem cells to the peripheral blood has largely replaced bone marrow transplants as a strategy in the clinic. Here, Cao et al. report the use of an α₉β₁/α₄β₁integrin antagonist to induce rapid mobilization of blood stem cells from the bone marrow in a humanized mouse model.
