Photovoltaic devices suffer from unavoidable open circuit voltage losses. Here, authors design a photo-ferroelectric 2D/3D/2D perovskite junction with 2D ferroelectric single crystals in bulk, resulting in an electric field and achieving a net gain in device open circuit voltage reaching 1.21 V.

Vertically oriented low-dimensional perovskites for high-efficiency wide band gap perovskite solar cells

Controlling crystal growth alignment in wide bandgap low-dimensional perovskites has been a persistent challenge. Here, authors induce vertical crystal growth through the addition of chlorine to precursor solution, giving rise to a record power conversion efficiency of 9.4% for 2 eV bandgap devices.

All-perovskite tandem solar cells with an immiscible 3D/3D bilayer heterojunction demonstrate a record-high PCE of 28%, as well as the ability to retain more than 90% of their initial performance after 600 h of continuous operation.
