Osakabe et al. report the implementation of a CRISPR type I-D (TiD) system for editing in plants, which consists of eight Cas genes (Cas1d–Cas7d, Cas10d) followed by an array of repeat spacer units. The CRISPR TiD can effectively induce short indels, long-range deletions and bi-allelic mutations in plants, adding a valuable toolbox to manipulate plant genomes.
