An automated 13.5 hour system for scalable diagnosis and acute management guidance for genetic diseases

Rapid diagnosis and implementation of treatments is crucial in many genetic conditions. Here the authors describe Genome-to-Treatment, a virtual disease management system that can achieve a rapid diagnosis by expedited whole genome sequencing in 13.5 hours and provide guidance to clinicians for possible therapies.

Genomic epidemiology of SARS-CoV-2 in a UK university identifies dynamics of transmission

The X-ray crystal structure of the 340-kDa octamer of Wza, essential for group 1 capsule export in Escherichia coli, is determined. A large portion of Wza is located in the periplasm and the protein contains a large central cavity, through which capsular polysaccharides are translocated.

Genome-wide association analysis identifies six new loci associated with forced vital capacity

Stephanie London, Martin Tobin and colleagues report meta-analyses of genome-wide association studies for forced vital capacity (FVC), a spirometric measure of pulmonary function that reflects lung volume. They identify six regions newly associated with FVC and demonstrate that candidate genes at these loci are expressed in lung tissue and primary lung cells.
