The G4 resolvase Dhx36 modulates cardiomyocyte differentiation and ventricular conduction system development

The cardiac conduction system dictates the pacing of the heartbeat, but despite its importance relatively little is known about the mechanisms underlying its development. Here they show that the G4 resolvase Dhx36 is important for regulating cardiac conduction system morphogenesis and function.

Non-invasive electromechanical assessment during atrial fibrillation identifies underlying atrial myopathy alterations with early prognostic value

Electromechanical characterization during atrial fibrillation (AF) remains a significant gap in the understanding of AF-related atrial myopathy. Here, the authors use non-invasive atrial electromechanical assessment during AF to identify early remodeling changes associated with underlying myopathy, which in the clinic decrease the probability of acute and mid-term successful rhythm control.

p38γ/δ activation alters cardiac electrical activity and predisposes to ventricular arrhythmia

Romero-Becerra et al. report that stress kinases p38γ and p38δ are activated in ventricles of old mice and in arrhythmogenic conditions, and they demonstrate that p38γ/δ -driven phosphorylation of RyR2 and SAP97 is a trigger for ventricular fibrillation.

Porta-Sanchez et al. developed a pig model for Timothy syndrome (TS), which mirrors the severe heart condition seen in children with TS and also uncovers novel triggers of these life-threatening cardiac arrhythmias, illustrating the suitability of the new TS animal model for exploring new therapies.
