Here, Rose et al show that Ca. M. amalyticus (Patescibacterium) infection and lysis depend on the presence of mycolic acid in its host bacterium Gordonia amarae.

Insights into type IX secretion from PorKN cogwheel structure bound to PorG and attachment complexes

Type IX secretion system (T9SS) is required for protein export in the Bacteroidota. Here, the authors obtain structure of T9SS PorKN ring which resembles a cogwheel that may have a rotational movement and is disulfide bonded to outer membrane beta-barrel PorG.

MinCD cell division proteins form alternating copolymeric cytomotive filaments

MinC, MinD and MinE proteins form part of an oscillatory network that ensures bacteria divide precisely at their midpoints. Ghosal et al.show that MinC and MinD can form membrane-binding copolymers, and propose a mechanism by which these copolymers may regulate cytokinetic ring assembly.

A combination of electron cryotomography and immunofluorescence microscopy reveals the structure of the core transmembrane subcomplex of the Legionella defective in organelle trafficking (Dot)/intracellular multiplication (Icm) type IVB secretion system (T4BSS) and an early-stage assembly process by which T4BSS components are targeted to the bacterial poles by DotU and IcmF.

Co-clustering of EphB6 and ephrinB1 in trans restrains cancer cell invasion

This study demonstrates that co-clustering of the EphB6 receptor tyrosine pseudokinase with its ephrinB1 ligand on neighboring cells promotes formation of intercellular tubules. This stabilizes cell-cell adhesion and reduces cancer cell invasion.
