  • Ferromagnetic superconductors are rare due to the destructive effect of ferromagnetic fields on singlet superconductivity. Here, the authors explore EuFe2(As1−x Px)2, revealing that its unique magnetic structure enhances vortex dynamics, suggesting new methods for improving vortex pinning in high-current conductor applications.

  • Surfaces can significantly influence magnetic order by breaking bulk symmetries, introducing roughness, or hosting defects. Here, a microscopy study of the surface of bulk Cu2OSeO3 reveals magnetic textures associated with distinct surface states, such as in-plane magnetic stripes that are absent in the bulk, and demonstrates the local displacement of individual skyrmions by an applied electric field.

  • The ability to image nanometre-scale magnetization and current density is key to deciphering the physics of correlated states hosted in 2D layered materials. This Technical Review analyses the magnetic imaging techniques most amenable to these systems, compares their capabilities and limitations, and discusses their potential impact.
