CDK12 controls transcription at damaged genes and prevents MYC-induced transcription-replication conflicts

CDK12 is a therapeutic target and cancer gene required for genome integrity. Here, the Authors show that loss or inhibition of CDK12 leads to persistent transcription of damaged genes, and triggers transcription replication conflicts leading to selective cell death in Myc- driven tumors.

Latitudinal gradients in seed predation persist in urbanized environments

Seed predation increases from the Arctic to the tropics, but it is unknown whether urbanization disrupts this latitudinal pattern. An experimental study conducted across the Americas shows that the latitudinal gradient in predation holds in urban areas, even though total seed predation is reduced.

Simultaneous intracellular chloride and pH measurements using a GFP-based sensor

A genetically encoded ratiometric biosensor not based on fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET), ClopHensor, allows concurrent measurement of intracellular pH and chloride by providing an internal control for pH-dependent fluorescence changes. Measurements of chloride levels in acidic large dense core vesicles showed high concentrations of chloride.
