Generic chemical approaches that can universally modulate photodynamic reactivity in organic photosensitizers are of high interest. Here, the authors present a strategy to fine-tune the production of singlet oxygen in multiple photosensitive scaffolds under the activation of bioresponsive and bioorthogonal stimuli.
