Hierarchically structured lithium titanate for ultrafast charging in long-life high capacity batteries

Both electronic and ionic transport must be optimized in Li₄Ti₅O₁₂for its use in Li-ion batteries, most promisingly against high voltage cathodes. Here authors synthesize hierarchical porous micrometre-scale structures composed of primary nanoparticles to demonstrate an attractive combination of rate performance, capacity and cycling stability.

Super-enhancers (SEs) drive specific gene expression programmes underlying different cancer cell states offering opportunities for therapeutic targeting. Here, the authors suggest targeting SE-dependent genes with synthetic ecteinascidins in tumors with heterogeneous transcriptional landscapes.

Approaching the capacity limit of lithium cobalt oxide in lithium ion batteries via lanthanum and aluminium doping

Lithium cobalt oxides are used as a cathode material in batteries for mobile devices, but their high theoretical capacity has not yet been realized. Here, the authors present a doping method to enhance diffusion of Li ions as well as to stabilize structures during cycling, leading to impressive electrochemical performance.

Active mRNA degradation by EXD2 nuclease elicits recovery of transcription after genotoxic stress

Here the authors show that the exonuclease EXD2 is involved in the recovery of class II gene transcription after UV irradiation. EXD2 travels from the mitochondria to the nucleus to interact with RNA Pol II and degrade new synthetized mRNA to allow transcription following DNA repair.

Functional interplay between TFIIH and KAT2A regulates higher-order chromatin structure and class II gene expression

Chromatin structure plays a significant role in the regulation of gene expression. Here the authors show that TFIIH interacts with the histone acetyl transferase KAT2A and recruits the ATAC/hSAGA complexes to chromatin; and that loss of xeroderma pigmentosum group B (XPB) function results in chromatin decondensation and increased gene expression through activation of KAT2A.

TFIIE orchestrates the recruitment of the TFIIH kinase module at promoter before release during transcription

The general transcription factors TFIIE and TFIIH assemble at the transcription start site with RNA Polymerase II. Here the authors provide evidence that the TFIIEα and TFIIEβ subunits anchor the TFIIH kinase module within the preinitiation complex before their release during transcription.
