Large magnetic gap at the Dirac point in Bi₂Te₃/MnBi₂Te₄ heterostructures

In theory, the anomalous quantum Hall effect is observed in edge channels of topological insulators when there is a magnetic energy gap at the Dirac point; this gap has now been observed by low-temperature photoelectron spectroscopy in Mn-doped Bi₂Te₃.

Entanglement and manipulation of the magnetic and spin–orbit order in multiferroic Rashba semiconductors

Inα-GeTe, ferroelectric polarization acts to break inversion symmetry of the lattice and induce a strong Rashba-type spin splitting of the electronic band structure. Here, the authors study how this effect competes with Zeeman splitting due to ferromagnetic exchange coupling in Mn-doped GeTe.

Altermagnetic lifting of Kramers spin degeneracy

Using photoemission spectroscopy and ab initio calculations, evidence is given of two distinct unconventional mechanisms of lifted Kramers spin degeneracy generated by the altermagnetic phase of centrosymmetric MnTe with vanishing net magnetization.

Nonmagnetic band gap at the Dirac point of the magnetic topological insulator (Bi_1−xMn_x)₂Se₃

Doping a topological insulator with magnetic impurities is expected to induce ferromagnetism and open a band gap in its surface states. Here, the authors study Mn-doped Bi₂Se₃, finding a mechanism for band gap opening in topologically-protected surface states which is not of magnetic origin.

Multiple-stable anisotropic magnetoresistance memory in antiferromagnetic MnTe

Contrary to ferromagnets, antiferromagnets possess no net magnetic moment, which has limited their applicability as magnetic memory media. Here, the authors demonstrate a heat-assisted multiple-stable memory based on epitaxial thin films of antiferromagnet MnTe with three-fold symmetric anisotropy.
