Unstable dynamic states are of technological importance, however, increasingly smaller systems, down to the nanoscale, are challenging to control due to fast time constants. In this work, the authors present an easy to implement way of accessing unstable branches of an oscillating microcantilever tip in the vicinity of a surface and explore possible applications in the context of Scanning Force Microscopy.
