Genome-wide association analysis of left ventricular imaging-derived phenotypes identifies 72 risk loci and yields genetic insights into hypertrophic cardiomyopathy

Changes of left ventricular structure are used to predict morbidity and mortality in cardiovascular diseases. Here the authors conducted a study using advanced deep learning technology to analyze left ventricular regional wall thickness (LVRWT) in a large population, identifying 72 significant genetic loci linked to LVRWT traits.

Interaction-selective molecular sieving adsorbent for direct separation of ethylene from senary C₂-C₄ olefin/paraffin mixture

Olefin/paraffin separations are challenging in chemical industry. Here, authors report a sieving adsorbent for separating C2-C4 olefins from counterpart paraffins. The interlayer spaces are selectively opened via stronger guest-host interactions induced by olefins, as opposed to saturated paraffins.

Comparative genomic analysis of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma between Asian and Caucasian patient populations

Esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) exhibits differences in incidence and survival patterns among races. Here, analysis of Chinese and TCGA ESCC patients reveals that Asian patients exhibit higher TP53, EP300 and NFE2L2 mutational frequencies, and mutated CSMD3 associates with better prognosis.

Activation of melanocortin-1 receptor signaling in melanoma cells impairs T cell infiltration to dampen antitumor immunity

Aberrant G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) signaling has been associated with tumor progression and metastasis. Here the authors show that depletion of the GPCR melanocortin-1 receptor (MC1R) in melanoma cells is associated with enhanced T cell infiltration and anti-tumor immune responses.
