Modular construction of α- or β-stereogenic organosilanes and organogermanes via enantioselective alkene hydroalkylation

Achieving enantioselective C(sp³)–C(sp³) bond formation using a silyl group as an auxiliary is challenging. Now a cobalt-catalysed enantioselective hydroalkylation of vinyl- and allylsilanes to construct α- or β-stereogenic organosilanes has been developed to efficiently generate the chiral carbon centres.

Common variants in ACYP2 influence susceptibility to cisplatin-induced hearing loss

Jun Yang, Clinton Stewart and colleagues report the results of a genome-wide association study of cisplatin-induced ototoxicity among children undergoing treatment for brain tumors. They identify common variants in ACYP2 strongly associated with cisplatin-induced hearing loss and ototoxicity severity.

Inherited GATA3 variants are associated with Ph-like childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia and risk of relapse

Jun Yang and colleagues show that common variants in GATA3 are associated with risk of Ph-like acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). They further show that these variants are associated with variation in GATA3 expression levels and with risk of ALL relapse.

Epigenetic activation of the FLT3 gene by ZNF384 fusion confers a therapeutic susceptibility in acute lymphoblastic leukemia

Different molecular subtypes defined by specific gene rearrangements have been described for acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL). Here, the authors show that ZNF384 fusion activates FLT3 expression conferring a therapeutic vulnerability for ZNF384- rearranged ALL subtype.
