Cross-ancestry genome-wide analysis of atrial fibrillation unveils disease biology and enables cardioembolic risk prediction

Genome-wide analyses in BioBank Japan and populations of European ancestry identify new risk loci for atrial fibrillation. A polygenic risk score constructed from the cross-ancestry meta-analysis is associated with increased risk of long-term cardiovascular mortality.

p53-induced inhibition of Hif-1 causes cardiac dysfunction during pressure overload

Angiogenesis is involved in compensatory cardiac hypertrophy following pressure overload. However, the process also induces the accumulation of p53 which ultimately suppresses angiogenesis and thereby contributes to the transition from hypertrophy to heart failure.
