Jerome Cartailler, Pierre Parutto et al. identify motifs in electroencephalogram (EEG) recordings that predict brain patterns seen in excessive anesthesia. The EEG motifs were detected within the first few minutes of general anesthesia, suggesting they could be used to monitor patients during procedures and avoid over-sedation.
