Dermatitis herpetiformis is a dermal manifestation of celiac disease and characterized by the presence of autoantibodies recognizing transglutaminase 3 (TG3). Here, the authors show that the TG3 enzyme forms complexes with its substrate, gluten, and upon internalization of the whole complex via the B cell receptor, the B cells activate cognate CD4 T cells.
