Terahertz (THz) electromagnetic fields can alter ion channel conductance, however, the mechanism by which they do so is not fully understood. Here, the authors perform molecular dynamics simulations to reveal that THz waves with specific frequencies can enhance the ion permeation by directly affecting the motion of K+ or Na+ bound at the selectivity filter of the Kv1.2 and Nav1.5 channels.
