Controlling the populations of triplet and singlet states in donor-acceptor conjugated molecules is a prerequisite for developing optoelectronic devices. In this work, the authors propose a methodology to determine the probability and rate of crossover between systems induced by spin-orbit coupling in non-fullerene acceptors, explaining their photoluminescence properties based on quantum walks.
