  • Relevant features of T cell repertoire in human cancer remain to be delineated. Here the authors show, by TCR sequencing in a large cohort of lung cancer patients, that while a majority of T cell clones are shared between tumor and adjacent lung tissue, less frequent tumor-unique T cell clones correlate with worse prognosis.

  • Rab small G proteins regulate membrane trafficking events by recruiting effectors that mediate vesicle tethering. In vitro studies now suggest that Vps21 and other endosomal Rabs in budding yeast can undergo GTP-regulated Rab-Rab interactions that drive tethering in the absence of effectors, implying that they have an intrinsic tethering activity that may function in concert with conventional effectors.

  • Ryan Emerson and colleagues report immunosequencing of the variable region of the TCRβ chain in 666 individuals with known cytomegalovirus (CMV) status. They show that CMV status and HLA genotype shape the T cell repertoire and demonstrate proof of principle that TCRβ sequencing can be used as a specific diagnostic of pathogen exposure.
