Macrocyclic peptide-based inhibition and imaging of hepatocyte growth factor

A potent inhibitor for hepatocyte growth factor was identified that utilizes an allosteric mode of inhibition revealed by atomic force microscopy imaging. The inhibitor could be used for positron emission tomography imaging of mouse tumors.

An interaction between Scribble and the NADPH oxidase complex controls M1 macrophage polarization and function

Muthuswamy et al. report that in macrophages SCRIB interacts with the NADPH oxidase complex to promote the production of reactive oxygen species needed to kill bacteria. Conversely, loss of SCRIB promotes M1 macrophage polarization and inflammation.

Loss of Parkinson’s disease-associated protein CHCHD2 affects mitochondrial crista structure and destabilizes cytochrome c

Mutations inCHCHD2 are associated with Parkinson’s disease. Here the authors investigate the physiological and pathological roles of CHCHD2 in Drosophilaand mammalian cells, and find that it regulates mitochondrial respiration through stabilizing cytochrome c.
