Optogenetics is a powerful antiepileptic strategy in cases of drug resistance but light delivery to deep brain structure is hard to achieve. Here, authors develop a closed-loop chemo-optogenetic tool made of a luciferase, a sensor of intracellular pH, and an optogenetic actuator for silencing neuronal hyperactivity.
