The ependyma lining the third ventricle in the mediobasal hypothalamus regulates energy balance and glucose homeostasis. Here, using single-cell transcriptomics the authors reveal how hypothalamic ependymocyte subpopulations spatially reorganize functions of lipid processing and neuron communication during energy imbalance.
