Gold-catalysed amine synthesis by reductive hydroamination of alkynes with nitroarenes

Amines are predominant motifs in pharmaceuticals, but complex amines are challenging to generate. Now, enabled by triple Au–H/Au+/Au–H relay catalysis, the synthesis of complex and structurally diverse amines by a direct reductive hydroamination of alkynes with nitroarenes is reported. Catalytic intermediates were isolated to elucidate the mechanism.

Highly selective transition-metal-free transamidation of amides and amidation of esters at room temperature

Transamidation reactions usually require transition metal catalysts and/or harsh conditions. Here, the authors show a general and operationally-simple protocol for the transamidation of amides and amidation of esters by highly selective acyl cleavage with non-nucleophilic amines under mild conditions.

Divergent alkynylative difunctionalization of amide bonds through C–O deoxygenation versus C–N deamination

The development of methods for conversion and utilization of amides has attracted much attention in organic synthesis and drug discovery. Herein, the authors report a divergent alkynylative difunctionalization of amides in a single transformation to generate either amines or alcohols through C–O or C–N cleavage.

Thiazol-2-ylidenes as N-Heterocyclic carbene ligands with enhanced electrophilicity for transition metal catalysis

N-heterocyclic carbenes are widely exploited as ligands in transition metal catalysis, but are largely limited to N-arylimidazolylidenes. Here, the authors report on the steric and electronic properties of thiazol-2-ylidenes, demonstrating that their enhanced π-electrophilicity makes them attractive as carbene ligands in transition metal-catalysed electrophilic cyclization reactions.
