  • The MOF acetyltransferase-containing Non-Specific Lethal (NSL) complex is a broad transcription regulator and haploinsufficiency of its KANSL1 subunit results in the Koolen-de Vries syndrome in humans. Here, the authors identify the BET protein BRD4 as evolutionary conserved co-factor of the NSL complex and provide evidence that NSL-deposited histone acetylation induces BRD4 recruitment for transcription of constitutively active genes.

  • The Chasma Boreale is a large canyon — 500 km long, up to 100 km wide, and nearly 2 km deep — that cuts into the north polar layered deposits on Mars. Quite how it formed has been unclear. However, new penetrating radar imagery has now been used to show that depositional processes, rather than catastrophic events, were responsible.

  • The Mars Subsurface Water Ice Mapping (SWIM) project aims at determining the regions where near-surface ice is most likely to be present, according to the combination of all the available datasets. Focusing on the northern mid-latitudes, they identify in particular Deuteronilus Mensae and Arcadia Planitia as promising sites.
