Methylation of CHMP2B regulates abscission timing by modulating ESCRT-III dynamics during cytokinesis. This methylation also plays a role in HIV-1 budding, highlighting the broader significance of ESCRT-III methylation.

Structural insights into p300 regulation and acetylation-dependent genome organisation

Here the authors use structural analyses to show that an intrinsically disordered transcription activation domain in the oncogene BRD4-NUT binds to and activates p300. This in-turn drives formation of higher-order, acetylation-dependent chromatin condensates.

SMYD3 links lysine methylation of MAP3K2 to Ras-driven cancer

SMYD3 is a methyltransferase overexpressed in several human tumours; here methylation of the MAP3K2 kinase by SMYD3 is shown to be critical for Ras-induced tumour development in mouse models and human tumour cells, showing an unexpected role for methylation in a kinase signalling pathway and revealing a candidate therapeutic target.
