There is a demand for reliable and fast sealing underwater adhesives for industrial applications but reduced adhesive performance due to the wet environment is a persistent issue. Here, the authors report a pressure-sensitive in-situ underwater adhesive that combines superabsorbent particles with applied mechanical pressure to increase the level of adhesion between the contact areas and adhesive particles while removing interfacial water molecules.
