Rehabilitation of human hearing with a totally implantable cochlear implant: a feasibility study

Lefebvre, Müller et al. present initial clinical findings with a totally implantable cochlear implant, where the components of the audio processor have been integrated into a single implanted device. This device shows similar performance characteristics to a conventional cochlear implant.

A framework for evaluating the chemical knowledge and reasoning abilities of large language models against the expertise of chemists

Large language models are increasingly used for diverse tasks, yet we have limited insight into their understanding of chemistry. Now ChemBench—a benchmarking framework containing more than 2,700 question–answer pairs—has been developed to assess their chemical knowledge and reasoning, revealing that the best models surpass human chemists on average but struggle with some basic tasks.

A two-dimensional ON/OFF switching device based on anisotropic interactions of atomic quantum dots on Si(100):H

Using scanning tunnelling microscopes to manipulate atomic quantum dots at surfaces enables the creation of devices using inter-dot interactions. Here the authors demonstrate the design and operation of nanoscale ON/OFF switches by arranging four silicon dangling bonds.
