Hou et al demonstrate that L-arginine supplementation enhances intestinal stem cell function in mice. Co-culture experiments show that this effect is due to Wnt2b section by CD90+ stromal cells. These findings show an important role for stroma in nutrient-stimulated stem cell expansion.
