Single-photon sensitive light-in-fight imaging

Ultrafast imaging schemes can enable a diverse range of applications but require long acquisition times or raster scanning. Here, Gariepy et al. demonstrate visualization and rapid characterization of light-in-flight and laser-induced plasma formation using single-photon detector arrays.

Recovering three-dimensional shape around a corner using ultrafast time-of-flight imaging

An important goal in optics is to image objects hidden by turbid media, although line-of-sight techniques fail when the obscuring medium becomes opaque. Veltenet al. use ultrafast imaging techniques to recover three-dimensional shapes of non-line-of-sight objects after reflection from diffuse surfaces.

Terahertz time-gated spectral imaging for content extraction through layered structures

Terahertz radiation may be used to nondestructively detect and study defects and structures within materials. Here the authors use terahertz time-gated spectral imaging to extract occluded text from paper pages with subwavelength spacing.

Locating and classifying fluorescent tags behind turbid layers using time-resolved inversion

Fluorescent patches can be localized in 3D and identified behind a diffusive layer by use of streak images taken from one horizontal line on the diffusive barrier. Satat et al. show that the time-resolved inversion along with sparse prior can be used to perform this with deeper recovery range.

Photography optics in the time dimension

By folding large spaces in time using an off-resonant Fabry–Pérot cavity in camera sensors, new capabilities such as ultrafast multi-zoom imaging and ultrafast multispectral imaging, of use for time-resolved imaging and depth-sensing optics, are found.
